Paws for Hunger
Paws for Hunger is the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley’s partnership Pet Food Bank with the Hunger Coalition. The Shelter raises funds to purchase the pet food that stocks the bank. The Hunger Coalition distributes this food to families in need. Since 2010, 4,172 bags of food have been given to families within the Wood River Valley. That’s more than 77,500 pounds of food! Not only does providing pet food to families who are struggling financially help keep pets happily with the people who love them, it also opens the doors for people to ask for help themselves.
With more storage space, we'll be able to reduce costs of this program by purchasing food at the lowest cost and distributing it based on the ebbs and flows of need.
Paws on Location
Animals bring comfort to people of all ages, sharing joy and spreading love. Our “Paws on Location” program focuses on enhancing the quality of life for the residents of Blaine Manor Assisted Living Center in Hailey. Each week, Shelter staff and volunteers bring Shelter dogs to visit the residents. The visits help our dogs get more socialization while brightening the day of the Blaine Manor residents!
We are so excited to be able to invite our friends from the Senior Connection and Safe Haven to the new facility where everything will be ADA accessible. We'll have plenty of quiet spaces for residents to come visit with the animal population - especially in the Cat Cafe where they can enjoy a hot beverage! From senior walking groups to story time with cats; the possibilities for expansion of the Paws on Location program are endless!
